Flag football originated in Fort Mead, Maryland, from touch football in the 1930s, but it wasn’t until the 1940s and WWII that it became popular. Played by GIs throughout bases around the world and taken back to their hometowns when they got out of the military, flag football spread throughout the country via our country’s servicemen. Today, there is the Professional Flag Football League (PFFL), with a travel schedule and big names backing the sport, like NFL veteran Terrell Owens.

Community flag football leagues are popular in many towns and cities throughout the country today. With organized leagues and playoff and championship games, the sport is played and enjoyed by all ages.
