There are three types of insurance policies to consider: Accident, Participant Liability, and Spectator/Premise Liability. The first step to take is to determine which type of insurance is best for your situation.

Accident Insurance:

This insurance reimburses your participants and volunteers for medical bills incurred from a covered injury which occurs during practice, competition, or travel to an event.

Participant Liability:

This type of insurance pays for your defense and the cost of settlement or jury verdict for spectators or participants who suffer bodily injury or property damage due to negligence of the event sponsor. Even if you prove that you or your organization was not negligent, you would still have to defend yourself in court. This insurance covers your court costs as well as any settlement costs. Without this insurance, all your costs would be out of pocket.

Spectator/Premise Liability:

To defend your organization against claims involving spectator slips/falls or property damage to the facility while under your organization’s control, this is the club insurance you need. Claims by athletic participants are not covered under this type of policy.
